Thomas Freeman Scott and 3 of his brothers came to Texas in 1857. The Scott brothers are first listed in the Van Zandt Co. census of 1860. During the War Between the States, Thomas Freeman enlisted in the Confederate Army on March 18, 1862, serving as a private in Company C, of the 25th Louisiana Infantry. He was wounded in action at Farmington, Mississippi, May 8-9, 1862, returned home to recuperate, then returned to war, serving in Company I of the 11th Texas Infantry. After his death, Hester was denied a Confederate Widow's pension because the value of her 15 acres of land was too great.
